At the foot of 3008 meter tall Acherkogel peak, Oetz attracts visitors with a surprisingly mild climate, earning the epithet "North Tirol's Meran ". The picturesque village center takes you back to bygone times. Historic buildings such as the Museum in the Tower, the parish church and many ornate facade paintings from the 16th century bear witness to carefully grown village architecture which can rarely be observed in Tirol. Additionally, countless restaurants, cafes and boutiques invite you to enjoy a stroll through the village. Ötztaler Ache mountain brook flows through the village, one of Europe's most popular white water areas for river rafting and kayaking fans. Also mountain bikers and paragliders appreciate Oetz as a perfect starting point.
Very close to Oetz - called "Ez" in the local dialect - there is a hidden natural landmark: Lake Piburger See is lovingly embedded in a basin above the village, fascinating walkers, hikers and mountain bikers with great natural beauty. In summer, the natural lake reaches up to 24° Celsius and is considered one of the most beautiful swimming lakes in Tirol.
For hiking and mountaineering aficionados the Oetz Region offers a variety of tours. Above all, the Hochoetz pasture and hiking region opens up an almost paradisiacal variety of experiences. Acherkogel mountain gondola takes you effortlessly from Oetz to the WIDIVERSUM at 2020 m above sea level in only 8 minutes and right to the heart of a well-marked network of hiking paths. The choice ranges from easy hut walking tours, e.g. to Balbach Alm, Kühtaile Alm, Bielefelder Hütte or Acherberg Alm, to summit tours and Alpine crossings towards the neighboring side valleys of Ötztal and Kühtai.
