Schönwieshütte lies above the lively village of Obergurgl at the foot of Hanger face. The ascent starts at the village edge of Obergurgl, leading past the 400 years old stone pine forest and the foothills of Hohe Mut mountain ridge. The last stretch runs parallel to the mighty Rotmoos ravine.

Easier variant: Pedestrians can take an uphill ride on Steinmannbahn at the foot of the stone pine forest (lift ticket required). From the top station there is a broad road leading directly up to the hut - that guards the entrance to Rotmoostal side valley. The hut taxi (call for reservation) will gladly pick you up from the top station of Steinmannbahn.

Turn-by-turn directions

The Schoenwieshütte (private, 2.266m, opening hours 9.00 - 16.00 hrs) is located at the foot of the Hangerer, a walking hour above the fast-paced Obergurgl (1,927m). A wide, continuous road leads up to the hut, which guard the entrance to the beautiful Rotmoostal. The ascent begins at the end of Obergurgel at the valley station of the Hohe Mutbahn 1, past the 400 year old Zirbenwald and the foothills of the Hohe Mut and runs the last stretch parallel to the Rotmoosschlucht, which is finally by bridge at all. There is now nothing left in the way of a refreshing ski water on the sunny Hüttenterrasse. But, just a photo you should perhaps shoot quickly from this prototype of a hut, whose roof spreads like the wings of a bird over the flat stone building. Descent as ascent.

Public transport

Travel safe and comfortable with the train to the Ötztal Bahnhof train station. Last stop and exit point is the train station Ötztal Bahnhof.
