Two ski areas that complement each other perfectly
With an average of 64 sunshine days per season the Hochoetz ski region ranks among the five sunniest ski areas in all of Austria. And that's not the only reason why it's one of the most popular family ski resorts in Ötztal. Also the funny mountain sheep WIDI, mascot of the Oetz region, promises unlimited fun for ski tots on the slopes: be it WIDIs MOVIE SHUTTLE, WIDI's fun park or the children's course "Follow the traces of wild animals", the up-and-coming young skiers will discover heaps of adventures in the Hochoetz ski area while the parents and grandparents can enjoy perfectly groomed slopes for pure skiing enjoyment.
Snow is always guaranteed 100% thanks to state-of-the-art snowmaking systems spread over the 41 immaculate slope kilometers from December to April. Quaint and cozy ski huts, surrounded by the majestic mountain peaks of Lower Ötztal, warmly invite you to take a long break.
A geographical contrast to the Hochoetz ski area, which is embedded in ancient stone pine forests, is the ski area of Kühtai at about 7 kilometers from Hochoetz. The village at 2020 meters above sea level is considered the highest winter sports resort in Austria. Additionally, it offers truly breathtaking mountain panoramas. Thanks to the high altitude and modern snow-making devices snow is guaranteed also in Kühtai. Not only from this point of view the two ski areas complement each other perfectly - Kühtai continues where Hochoetz ends: over 90% of red and blue ski runs provide unrivaled skiing fun for all the family!
Easily accessible by free skibus
All those who appreciate comfortable transfer services are perfectly right here: from the Ochsengarten bus stop, free shuttle buses are running every half hour between Hochoetz and Kühtai. After only about 15 driving minutes you can hit the slopes without any detours. Detailed bus schedules can be found here.

New Ski Piste: Balbach – Ochsengarten
The black ski piste no. 14 covering approx. 1 km connects the Balbach area with Ochsengarten. The newly built ski piste no. 14 starts just above the base station of Mohrenkopf lift towards Ochsengarten. Therefore it is the longest ski run of the entire ski area: The route covers 5 km from the top station of Wetterkreuzbahn via ski pistes no. 13, 10 and the new piste no. 14 to the base station of Ochsengarten Mountain Gondola.
Flexible ski course times & maximum skiing fun
In order to avoid larger crowds, the ski course times are scheduled in a flexible way. Depending on the ski school, group ski courses for children and adults start at 9.30 am / 10.00 am / 10.30 am. Thanks to such staggered starting times, we try to minimize group dynamics at the meeting points, at the mountain gondolas & lifts and also during lunch breaks. The maximum group size will be 10 people in order to meet the high quality requirements. The skibus times are perfectly adapted to the flexible ski course times.
